Good behavior and bad behavior in children is something parents have to deal with when raising their children. This is just part of being a parent and these will be almost daily issues.
Good behavior is one of the best things your child can give you and you as the parent must reward this type of behavior at all times when it occurs. Good behavior can be awarded with hugs, and words of praise like, good job, that is wonderful, or you have done well I am so proud of you. These are all words your child wants to hear and to see you smile at their accomplishments. Your child wants to be the center of your attention and your life.
It is best if you show; your approval of good behavior when your child is young and you continue to do this as the child grows. Your child will quickly learn that good behavior means you are pleased with the child. The child will then strive to please you to gain the attention and the praise from you.
Bad behavior is the total opposite of the good responses from you. When your child behaves badly it must be, corrected. You simply discipline the child according to the severity of the behavior. If you child say hits you during playtime do not hit the child back. This will only show the child hit gains hit. If the child hits you during playtime say no firmly do not raise your voice or never laugh at this action. Tell the child “No we do not do that”.
Then continue the playtime. This should be sufficient to deter the hitting. If however the child hits again stop, the playtime and sit the child in timeout. If the child is small, place the child in a playpen or enclosed area with no toys and let the child stay for two to three moments. If the child is older put the child in a chair or timeout area, where there is nothing to amuse the child and the child is bored. Timeout should not be a place of amusement for the child. When the time is up then get the child and resume playtime. The child will quickly learn that hitting means time spent in timeout. Moreover, the child spends time in timeout and not playing with you as he or she wants to.
Bad behavior gains bad results and good behavior gains good results. You as the parent must remain consistent in your praises and in the discipline as well. Even though it may be difficult for you to punish your child, it is necessary. If you do not discipline your child you will confuse the child and behavior problems even greater will occur. Therefore, it is best to stop this kind of event when it happens. No matter if the child is young or older it must be properly, dealt with.
